Dons Football

Even though the season has not gone the way I had wanted it to go we still have a chance to reach our goal for the year. And that goal is to win a playoff game. The team found out Monday morning that we had made the playoffs after the overtime win against a good Dumas football team. Inside I felt great but I know that its going to take some more work to get prepared to play in the playoffs and it would be a great confidence booster if we go in with a win this Friday night in Pampa. For Pampa it is a very emotional night being senior night and they are going to come out looking for a win. Its going to be a great game and the winner will be the team that makes the fewest mistakes.
I have dedicated my life to my football team and so has alot of the seniors and juniors at P.D. and this will be the last regular season football game together. I just want everybody from our fans to our coaching staff to know that we appreciate everything you all do for us and we will go out and perform Friday night for you all.

District Opener

Friday night district games started up for alot of teams and was also the night of our district opener. It was Palo Duro vs Caprock or as you all know it the Parr bowl. We were underdogs but that didn't stop us from going out and doing what we do best, and thats to run the ball non-stop. Our offensive line was making the blocks and our backs were making the moves to get the points on the board. We were all focused for this game and we knew it was gonna be an exciting one. I have never been more proud of my team for the way they played. I also have to give alot of credit to Caprock they came back and fought for everything but in the end we did the little things to pull out the victory. Thats exactly how we wanted to start district off 1-0 and we just want to take the momentum on throughout district play.

Came Up Short

Friday night didnt start out the way we wanted it with Hereford jumping out to a 14-0 lead very quickly in the first quarter. But a long reception by WR #88 Chris Acosta really got the offense into a groove. They began to move the ball the best we have since week 1. Although we went into halftime down 35-14 the Dons still came out in the second half and played there hearts out. Man I was so proud to say that I was a Don after my team never gave up. Although we came short of a win with the final score 42-35 it was a big boost to the team that when we come out and play to our abilities we are a great force.
This Friday we will be playing Plainview for our homecoming and also will be my first game back. This week means alot not only to us players but all of Palo Duro High School. The Palo Duro Dons will be ready to play Friday.

Tough Day

Saturday was one of the toughest days of my life. My team didn't come out and give the performance we should have, and also I got injured in the first half and had to sit out for the rest of the game. I felt so helpless, I wish I would have been able to go back out and help the team I love so much. Even though the game didn't go the way we wanted it too we have learned it takes total focus every game to come out and perform to our ability.

Saturday we will face Snyder, and this week will be nothing but focus and full attention on what we have to do to come out victorious. Although I may not be playing this week I will be giving it my all to make sure everyone is focused and ready to play

Hard Fought Game

Today as the Palo Duro Dons walked down to the field it was a whole diffrent feeling. For the seniors it was our last first game playing at Dick Bivins Stadium, and for some of the younger guys it was their first time walking into a jam packed stadium.

The game was amazing from the start to the finish. So many diffrent momentum swings had everyone staying till the very end. Im so happy that our team never let down when the bad things happened they just kept pushing forward. Even though we fell short at the end in Overtime im still proud of every single Palo Duro Don football player. I also have alot of respect for the Tascosa Rebels they played a great game. Also the fans in the stadium played a big part in us staying in it, and I want to thank everyone that attended the game.

Here it comes

When you're coming down the tunnel and you see everyone in the stands, your heart gets to beating, your excitement level rises – I’ve never felt anything like that before.

At PD we play non-stop-hitting, smashmouth football: just pounding the ball, running the ball nonstop, coming at you every time. We’re not gonna wait for you. We’re just gonna attack.

But for this first blog, I thought I would break down how we get ready for kickoff.

Five rituals before kickoff:

1. Team stretch

2. Individual technique – Linemen, corners, etc., all get in their group and practice skills.

3. Back up to the locker room – Everyobody gets real quiet and you focus on what you have to do. We try to keep it real quiet.

4. Prayer

5. The tunnel – As we head down, the excitement builds. Then we hit the field and we “get crunk”. Let me explain: we all bunch up in a big group and we just get real enthusiastic. We chant. We jump. Anything to get your blood flowing. You get all the butterflies out. We yell: “Who are we!” “PD!” You just keep doing it over and over. Everyone gets into the flow. You just forget about everything else.

Right before the kickoff everything gets real quiet and it’s like nobody is there except for on the field.

Here it comes.
